Setting up Shopproof on Shopify
Last updated 30 October 2026
Shopproof adds the information EU consumer rules ask online shops to show, as blocks in your theme. You do not need to edit theme code. Setup takes about ten minutes. Shopproof gives technical help to display this information; it is not legal advice, so check with a lawyer if you are unsure what applies to your shop.
1. Install the app
Install Shopproof from the Shopify App Store and open it from Apps in your Shopify admin. The app home lists each setup step with a button.
2. Add the withdrawal link
In the app, select Add to footer next to the withdrawal link. Your theme editor opens with the Withdrawal link block added to the footer. Check where it sits, then select Save. Some themes, such as Horizon, add the link as a small section of its own at the bottom of the footer. That works as it is; to place it among your footer links instead, drag the block into another footer section, if your theme allows app blocks there.
The link uses the reviewed legal wording in the language of the page: "Withdraw from contract here" in English, "Vertrag widerrufen" in German, and the same for French, Italian and Dutch. On pages in other languages it uses the wording for your shop's country. To pick that country yourself, change Label country in the block settings.
The link opens a withdrawal page that Shopproof provides at /apps/shopproof/withdrawals on your shop, in your theme's look and your customer's language. It also works for customers whose browser has JavaScript turned off. You do not need to create a page. If you prefer your own page, add the Withdrawal form block to it and choose that page under Withdrawal page in the link's settings.
You can add the Withdrawal link block in more places too, for example in your customer account area or on your contact page.
Older themes, or no room for app blocks in the footer: add the page to your footer menu instead. In Shopify, open Content, then Menus, choose your footer menu and select Add menu item. Use your country's wording as the name (the app shows it, for example "Vertrag widerrufen") and /apps/shopproof/withdrawals as the link. This works with every theme and needs no JavaScript.
Order confirmation email: the app home shows one line of code with the link in your country's wording. In Settings, Notifications, open Order confirmation, select Edit code, paste the line where the link should appear and save.
Privacy notice: the form links your privacy policy right before the confirm button, as German legal guidance recommends. Shopproof uses the policy from Settings, Policies. If you have none yet, add one there.
3. Show product safety details
Select Add to product page next to product safety. The Product safety block shows the manufacturer, the person responsible in the EU where needed, product identifiers and safety warnings (GPSR).
Then open Product safety in the Shopproof app and enter the details once: a default for all products, and a profile for each vendor whose products come from a different manufacturer. Use the vendor name exactly as it appears on your products (capital letters do not matter). Each product page then shows the profile for its vendor, or your default when the vendor has none. Select Save and your product pages use it straight away.
For a single product that differs, fill in the block settings or connect a setting to a product metafield: in the block settings select the connect icon next to a field, choose a metafield or create one, then fill in the metafield on each product. Values in the block always come before the profiles.
Selling outside Europe too? The Product safety, Legal guarantee notice and Durability label blocks each have the option Show only to visitors in the EU and EEA. It uses the country the visitor shops in (Shopify Markets). In the theme editor the blocks always show, so you can place them.
4. Show the EU legal guarantee notice
Select Add to product page next to the guarantee notice. The block shows the official EU notice on the legal guarantee in your customer's language, with a text version for screen readers. The artwork must not be changed, so the block has no style settings.
5. Show the durability label, if it applies
Only some goods need this: those whose producer offers a free commercial guarantee of durability of more than two years and has told you so. For those products, add the Durability label block to the product page and enter the guarantee period, the producer brand and the model. Skip this step otherwise.
6. Test a withdrawal
Open your shop, select the withdrawal link and send a test withdrawal with your own email address. You get an acknowledgement as the customer and a copy as the shop. The withdrawal also appears on the app home under Withdrawals received.
Emails come from Shopproof (no-reply@shopproof.app) and name your shop in the subject. When your customer replies, the reply goes to your shop's contact email. The withdrawal is stored even if an email cannot be delivered.
If a button does not add the block
Some themes do not accept app blocks in every section. Open the theme editor, go to the section where you want the block, select Add block, then the Apps tab, and choose the Shopproof block. If your theme accepts no app blocks there, add an Apps section first.
Your withdrawals
Every withdrawal appears under Withdrawals in the app. Search by name, email, order number, reference or item, filter by date, and download the list as a CSV file for your records. Your customer gets an email that confirms receipt with the content, date and time. It does not say the withdrawal is accepted: you check it (deadline, exceptions, order) and reply to the customer. You get a copy in your shop's language, and one extra email if your form receives an unusual number of withdrawals in an hour.
What is free
Everything in the app is free: no test mode, no limit on withdrawals or products, no Shopproof branding on your storefront, data processing terms included, and support by email in English or German. We never ask for a review before you can use a feature. A paid Pro plan will come later for maintained country rules and automation; it will not take anything away from the free app.
Your customers' data
Shopproof stores withdrawals in the EU (AWS Frankfurt) and acts as your processor under our data processing terms, which apply automatically. Customer data requests and deletion requests sent through Shopify are handled automatically. When you remove the app, Shopify asks us to delete your shop's data 48 hours later. Read the privacy notice for details.
